Owning an EV shouldn't depend on owning a home. Most renters park in shared lots and garages where nobody wants to pay for chargers, and the chargers that do exist often break. Matcha delivers charging as a service, runs it on MatchaOS and keeps it working, so renters charge at home and owners add an amenity without the hassle.
We started in apartment buildings. Today we also serve condos, affordable housing, workplaces, garages, campuses and town lots.
Chris and Jon founded Matcha in 2021 to solve a problem they had as renters. They had nowhere to charge an EV, and every option they found was expensive, unreliable or locked to one vendor's hardware. They built Matcha so renters could plug in at home.
2021
Chris and Jon looked for charging that worked in multifamily buildings and kept hitting high costs, poor service and closed systems.
2023
An open platform built on OCPP, the open charger standard, and made for shared parking at multifamily properties.
2024
Matcha began offering charging as a service, so properties could add charging with no or low capital cost.
Today
Matcha now pairs charging with battery storage and building monitoring. Renters get reliable charging at home, and owners cut energy costs with every asset running on MatchaOS.
MatchaOS runs EV chargers, batteries and building meters from different manufacturers on one platform. Properties aren't locked into one vendor, and every asset works together to lower the building's energy costs.
Our founders come from real estate development, digital infrastructure and marketplace businesses. We build for the people who own, run and live in buildings.
